Elizabeth-Lalli-Reese
Head of Corporate Human Resources for ACE Cash Express. Ten plus years in HR and recruitment + a true desire to give human resources a strategic role rather than a tactical one. I leverage my law degree to make HR more than just the old school "Personnel" department. I know how human capital can impact operations and the bottom line. It's no fun if we're not making money. I've written for a nationally recognized blog, featured in the NY Times and the Austin-American Statesman. I've also been featured on the highest rated Human Resources radio show, DriveThru HR.
TAKE 5
- 1. Which career role will you never find yourself in and why?
- Anything in medicine. I have much respect for nurses, EMT's, doctors. As a first generation Indian girl, my dad gave me two options for careers. Doctor or lawyer? I was leaning towards being a doctor at the young age of 10 because I liked the idea of wearing a lab coat, but then I almost passed out while looking at a picture of a scab in my 5th grade Health class. Yeah, I'm guessing I wouldn't have made the best doctor.
- 2. What are you most defining personality traits?
- I'm all in when it comes to life. If I'm working out? It's a ridiculously hard spin class. If I'm learning a new language? Complete immersion in CD's. Planning a party? You better RSVP and you better not be late. New project? I'm creating Excel spreadsheets and Gannt charts like a mofo. I get this laser focus thing going on, for good or bad. And if you challenge me to a competition? God help both of us.
- 3. What do you think the world needs more of?
- Passion. Just finished reading Seth Godin's Linchpin. You don't have to be rich or have a million degrees to be passionate about what you do. Passion is the reason I have gone to the same doctor for 12 years and will drive an hour to see her. Passion is why I'll go to certain restaurants because the service is just really good and the employees seem to like what they are doing. Life's too short to spend 40+ hours doing something just to collect a paycheck.
- 4. What superpower would you like to have most and why?
- I'd like the ability to reverse time. I do a lot of embarrassing and/or stupid things, and if I could reverse time, I'd be way richer (stupid Vegas!), way thinner (box of Girl Scout cookies? That's one serving right?), and way cooler (don't wear Heelys to Target if you're a grown woman with bad balance. They laugh.)
- 5. What song will be playing in the trailer to your biopic?
- So my music choices are often in question. I just recently got Spotify and I've been immersing myself in '80's gangsta rap (see: NWA). I love, love, love old school rap and R&B. My choice? Sugarhill Gang's "Rappers' Delight." Not because it's hardcore or gangster (it's so not) but because it came out in 1979 (like I did), it's a 15 minute song (and I assume my biopic will be epic), and because it talks about Kaopectate, which may be the hardest word ever to rhyme in any song.
